Shakib decides not to run polls

Bangladesh's ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has decided not to contest the upcoming 11th parliamentary election.

“I have changed my decision, won’t contest the elections,” Shakib told The Daily Star tonight.

Shakib did not made any comment about the reason for his change of plan.

Earlier in the day, Shakib and Mashrafe Mortaza said that they will contest the elections with Awami League ticket from Magura and Narail respectively.

The top cricketers of the country will collect the AL’s nomination papers from the party’s election conducting office in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi at 10:00am tomorrow, Md Abu Naser, senior information officer of the ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, told The Daily Star.

Mashrafe and Shakib today talked to AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader, also the minister for Road Transport and Bridges, over phone in this regard, he said.
