Shakib reaches 6000 runs

Shakib Al Hasan, who has been in tremendous form in the ongoing World Cup, reached the landmark of 6000 runs in ODI cricket during the Tigers’ match against West Indies at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton yesterday.

He started the game against the Caribbean side just 23 runs shy off the personal achievement. Bangladesh’s premier all-rounder then reached the milestone in the 15th over of the innings when he chopped a length ball outside off which went pass the keeper to take a double off the Oshane Thomas delivery.

The left-hander, who became only the second Bangladeshi to score a hundred in the World Cup when he struck a brilliant 119-ball 121 against hosts England, smashed his third fifty of the tournament yesterday to help the Tigers chase a mammoth 321 for eight set by West Indies earlier. Shakib was unbeaten on 67 off 60 deliveries when this report was filed.

The 32-year-old ace all-rounder averages 36.66 in ODIs with eight tons and 44 fifties to his name.
