5 held over textile mill official killing

Detectives detained five persons in Khilgaon of Dhaka for their alleged involvement with the killing of a textile mill official last week.

The body of Monirul Islam, 35, assistant general manager of Sayem Textile, was found at Shekher Jaiga in Khilgaon area on May 17.

Mursalin, 27, Akash, 28, Shakil, Ashik and Jewel were held in separate drives conducted since Sunday (May 22) evening, Abdul Baten, joint commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) of police, said today.

In a primary interrogation, the five have confessed to their involvement in the killing of Monirul, the joint commissioner said at a press briefing in DMP media centre in the morning.

Based on their information, the detectives with the help of firefighters recovered two mobile phone sets and a tab from different water-filled ditches in the area, the police official added.

The detainees will be produced before a Dhaka court today with a remand prayer, he said.
