Bangladeshi shooters had an ordinary day at the 9th Asian Airgun Championship yesterday as South Asian Games gold medallist Shakil Ahmed finished 25th among 28 participants in the Men's 10m air pistol event in Tehran, Iran.
After Bangladesh earned two silver medals in 10m air rifle events (men's junior and women's youth) in the first two days, there were high hopes on Shakil, who had won a gold medal in 50m pistol event in SA Games in February this year.
But the shooter from Khulna frustrated all by scoring 561 points, 12 less than the eighth and final shooter to qualify for the final round.
“I think Shakil is yet to adapt to the changes in techniques his new coach [Montenegrin Marko Socic] made. But I believe he will perform better once he gets used to the new techniques,” local coach Ashbab Ali Foyez told reporters.
Another Bangladeshi shooter, Anwar Hossain, too had a frustrating day in men's junior 10m air pistol event where he finished 10th among 13 competitors with a score of 550 points.
