Arambagh win maiden title

Arambagh Krira Sangha trump defending champions Chittagong Abahani 2-0 in the final of the Walton Independence Cup today to break their long-standing jinx in finals of tournaments.

Arif and Rocky scored the goals in the first half as Maruful Haque’s youthful side won their first title after having failed four times in finals previously.

The Motijheel-based outfit, who only finished eighth in the league this season, ended an unbeaten Independence Cup campaign with a richly-deserved victory, thanks to their resolute defending coupled with quick bursts at the attacking third.

The match was attended by at least five thousand people at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, with major share of the crowd supporting the neighbourhood club.
