PLOT: “Rangoon” is a love story set in the 1940s, when India as a nation was at the peak of its freedom struggle. The movie whirls around Julia (Kangana Ranaut), an actress, who is simply happy dreaming about becoming Mrs Billimoria, being head-over-heels in love with Russi Billimoria (Saif Ali Khan), an action hero. However, the country is amidst a crisis in which nobody is left unaffected, not even the elites in the movie business. Hence, Julia and subsequently Russi (Saif Ali Khan) end up finding themselves in different kinds of troubles thanks to Nawab Malik (Shahid Kapoor).

REVIEW: Vishal Bhardwaj's last movie “Haider” was a masterpiece that inscribed history in the minds of the viewers. However, his latest movie “Rangoon” was a completely different one in which the setting shows World War II. “Rangoon” is a love story between three characters: Miss Julia, Rusi Billimoria and Nawab Malik. Ranaut did a great job as Julia; she pulled off the character's brave-hearted nature, hesitancy and lack of fear. Saif Ali Khan failed to rise above his usual expectations, but Shahid Kapoor did a good job as Nawab Malik. Special credits go to the director of photography Pankaj Kumar, who not only beautified the brilliant landscape of Arunachal Pradesh, but also showed his grasp on creating mind-blowing scenes. As a whole, “Rangoon” is an epic love story with strong emotional quotients with a nail-biting second-half finish.
