Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

Director: Karan Johar

Writer: Karan Johar

Stars: Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Strength:  Cast, Music

Weakness: Story

Runtime: 158min

Rating: 4/5

PLOT: The story of unreciprocated love among three individuals, and the realizations they come across in their journey.

REVIEW: The initial segments of the film started with Rahul, portrayed by Ranbir Kapoor, giving an interview where he talks about his past and that is where the story kicks as he takes the viewers through his reminiscence.

The movie had many elements to it; from humour to grief, they were all well accounted for in the film. Anushka Sharma was the best-rounded character in the film, performing brilliantly, leaving no doubt in anyone's mind that they she is indeed full of talent. Her portrayal of Alizeh, an independent lady who goes through many facets of joy, sadness, love and friendship, hit the mark perfectly and was the best character in the film. Ranbir Kapoor's portrayal of the clumsy, one-sided heartbroken lover is remarkable and his honesty is clearly emanated through his character. Aishwarya's role of a seductive poet is a new territory for her, which she handled very maturely.

The songs in the film were well accounted for in their respective segments, which were all very catchy and emotional where it needed to be. The background score in the film was fairly-paced, and went very well with the segments.

On the down side, the story of unrequited love is somewhat common in Bollywood films; however director Karan Johar managed to make the ordinary story relatable and very engaging.

Overall, the movie is an accurate depiction of modern-day relationships, and coupled with stars of such competence and great direction, the movie is a clear success and is a great comeback for director Karan Johar and actor Ranbir Kapoor.
