Vishnu idol recovered

Police recovered a 100-kg statue of lord Vishnu, after labourers found it while digging a pit in Hakimpur upazila under the district yesterday.

Hired labourers were digging a pit in the land of one Kamal Uddin at Mongla Bazar in the upazila when they found the statue at around 20 feet depth, said Abdul Hakim, officer in charge of Hakimpur Police Station.

Informed, police recovered the three-foot-long statue around 2:00pm.

“As per our experience and that of locals, the statue seems to be made of touchstone. It will be handed over to the Department of Archaeology,” said the OC.
