At least two villagers sustained bullet injuries when people of two villages in Noakhali and Comilla clashed over fishing in a local canal on Wednesday.
Bullet-hit Solaiman, 28, son of late Marfat Ali of Shaktola village in Noakhali, and Mohsin, 40, son of Abdul Kader of the village, were admitted to Noakhali 250-bed General Hospital on Wednesday night from where Mohsin was later shifted to another hospital in the capital early yesterday as his condition deteriorated.
Villagers and relatives of the victims said an altercation took place on Wednesday afternoon between inhabitants of Shaktola village in Noakhali's Sonaimuri upazila and residents of Jaora village in Monoharganj upazila of Comilla over fishing in a local canal which flows between them.
As a sequel to the conflict, a group of 20 to 25 men of Jaora village entered Shaktola village around 10:00pm and opened fire on some villagers when they were gathering at a makeshift tea-stall near the canal and fled the spot, leaving Solaiman and Moshin bullet-injured, locals said.
Officer-in-Charge of Sonaimuri Police Station Mohammad Nasim said he heard about the incident and take legal action will be against the offenders immediately.
