A Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinee and his two associates were awarded six months imprisonment each for adopting unfair means in the examination using mobile phone in Bhandaria upazila of the district yesterday.
Bhandaria Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shahin Akter pronounced the verdict.
The convicts are Ariful Islam, an HSC examinee of humanities group from Bhandaria Government College and son of Md Golam Mostofa of Galua village under Rajapur upazila of Jhalakathi, Sohel Bepary, son of Dulal Bepary, and Faisal Jomadder, son of Gafur Jomadder of Bhandaria town.
Upazila academic supervisor and visitor of examination centre Md Nazrul Islam told local journalists that Ariful entered Majida Begum Girls' College with a hidden smart phone and took a picture of the English first paper question paper. He sent the picture to his friends Sohel and Faisal through the phone.
The matter came to the knowledge of Nazrul, who seized the mobile from Ariful. Nazrul called Sohel and Faisal over phone and handed the three over to the police.
On checking the cell phones of Sohel and Arif, police found that they were helping Ariful in the examination illegally.
Police produced the three culprits before the mobile court of the UNO, who awarded six months imprisonment to each.
The convicts were sent to Pirojpur jail, said Officer-in-Charge of Bhandaria Police Station Md Shahabuddin.
