Stalking costs a life

A man was killed and five others were injured in a clash as a sequel to stalking at Gazirkandi village under Krishnanagar union of Nabinagar upazila in the district on Wednesday evening.

The deceased was Abdul Mannan, 45, son of Madon Mia of the village.

Police and locals said a girl student of Uttarpara area of Gazirkandi village was going to her school on Tuesday morning when Mozammel, 30, resident of Dakkhin para area of the same village, stalked her.

Hearing the incident, the girl's maternal uncle Swapan Mia rushed to the spot and warned the youth and his companion.

On the next day, Mozammel and his accomplices attacked Swapan Mia near Mozammel's house. Afterwards, the two groups engaged in clashes with lethal weapons, leaving Abdul Mannan killed on the spot and five others injured.

Police sent the deceased's body to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Raju Ahmed, inspector (investigation) of Nabinagar Police Station.
