Risking life, N’ganj gateman saves youth attempting suicide under train

He laid himself down flat on the railway tracks with a train slowly approaching; seemingly it was a suicide attempt but all of a sudden he was dragged away by an on duty gateman.

And it doesn’t end there; one passerby rushed to the man, who was still wriggling to escape his savior, and started beating him.

The incident happened at a level crossing near Chashara Railway Station in Narayanganj around 10:00am on November 21, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo today.

Since then, a video on this stunning suicide attempt is being widely circulated over social media platforms.

Risking his life, the railway employee, Belal Hossain Mazumder, is seen saving Md Mamun, 34.

Belal has been working as a gateman at different rail crossings for the last 35 years.

On the video collected from a closed circuit (CC) camera installed at that point shows Mamun waiting close to the tracks for the train to come whereas people are seen moving to safety.

“I took the decision instantly, I have to save him,” the bangla daily reports quoting gateman Belal.
