A lighter vessel capsized at Karnaphuli river this evening after it collided with an oil tanker.

All five crew members of the vessel were rescued by local boatmen, said said Mijanur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadarghat River Police Station.

The vessel MV Ruhul Amin Khan was trying to dock at a private jetty named Jute Rally Ghat at Sadarghat when it collided with an anchored oil tanker named OT Mik Ridoy-1 around 7:30pm and capsized, he said.

The vessel was coming from the outer anchorage of Chittagong port after loading goods from there, said the OC who could not say what type of goods the vessel was carrying.
