Police have arrested the prime accused in the case for gang raping a woman in a microbus.
Nazrul Islam, 30, was held from Dudh bazar area of Manikganj on Wednesday. He is the owner of a grocery shop named Bismillah Store.
According to the case statement, the victim, hailing from Basail of Daulatpur upazila in Manikganj, lives in Nabinagar area of Dhaka.
On May 23 last year, she went to Nazrul's shop to pay the money she owed him when Nazrul told her that he would go to Gabtoli in Dhaka in a microbus and offered to take her to Nabinagar.
Nazrul took her in his microbus around 6:30pm. On the way, he took two people from Dhaleshwari area. The trio then tied the woman's hands and legs and raped her till 11:00pm.
They later threw her from the microbus in PATC area near Savar bus stand. Police found the victim with her hands and legs tied and rescued her. She was sent to Savar Upazila Health Complex.
Later, the woman filed a case, accusing the three, with Manikganj Sadar Police Station.
The then Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of the police station Mohammad Ashfaq Rajib Hasan submitted the final report, excluding the three accused, before the District and Sessions Judge's Court last year.
The court issued arrest warrants against the accused after the plaintiff submitted a no-confidence (naraji) petition before the court in this regard.
They are raiding different areas to arrest the other accused, said OC Rokibuzzaman of the police station.
