JP leader assaults ailing female teacher in N’ganj

A local leader of Jatiya Party has allegedly assaulted an ailing female school teacher physically as she refused to give private tuition to his granddaughter in Fatullah of Narayanganj.

The victim, Shahinur Parvin Shanu, a teacher in Pacific International School in Hajiganj area, has been suffering from kidney complicacies for the last six months, reports our Narayanganj correspondent.

Abdul Majid Khandaker, member secretary of Narayanganj district unit of Jatiya Party, and his wife Rokeya Khandaker went to the teacher’s rented flat yesterday evening and offered Shanu to give tuition to their granddaughter at their house, the victim said.

As Shanu refused their offer citing her illness, they left the house and returned half an hour later and beat up the teacher with their shoes in front of her family members, she claimed.

At one stage, the JP leader strangled Shanu and threatened to kill her by electrocution, she also said.

Shanu was admitted to the 300-bed hospital in the city’s Khanpur area, said Additional Superintendent of Police (Circle- Ka) Sharfuddin of Narayanganj district.

The victim’s father filed a case accusing Abdul Majid Khandaker and his wife Rokeya Khandaker with Fatullah Model Police Station, said Kamal Uddin, officer-in-charge of the police station.

“Legal steps will be taken after investigation,” ASP Sharfuddin said.

Nurul Huda, deputy commander of the district’s Muktijoddha Sangsad unit and also the owner of Shanu’s rented house, said, “The JP leader entered my house without my permission and assaulted my tenant. Such act is heinous and socially unacceptable. I demand justice.”

“Shanu has a reputation as a good teacher with very good records at school. She has been suffering from illness for a long time,” Amir Jaan, assistant head mistress of the school, told The Daily Star.

“We demand justice for such an unacceptable behaviour towards a teacher,” she said.

Contacted, Abdul Majid Khandaker said, “My wife and I offered her to give private tuition to our granddaughter, but she refused the offer and humiliated us by doing so. For this she was also humiliated.”
