Hand severed over land dispute

A youth's right hand got severed from the elbow in an attack centring a land dispute at Bajitpur village in Boalmari upazila yesterday morning.

The victim is mason Shahidul Sheikh, 22, son of Manik Sheikh of Mobarakdia village in the upazila.

Locals said there was a longstanding conflict between Manik Sheikh and Dulu Sheikh over the land.

As a sequel to the conflict, Shahidul attacked Dulu's son Ali Sheikh in 2016.

To take revenge, Akkas Sheikh, brother of Ali Sheikh, along with his supporters attacked Shahidul with sharp weapons when he was returning to his house from Chetarbazar.

The attackers then cut his right hand from the elbow, said the victim's brother Jahid Sheikh.

He was rushed to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Boalmari Police Station, said additional police have been deployed in the area to avert further trouble.
