'Drug dealer' killed in Munshiganj 'gunfight'

An alleged drug dealer was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Munshiganj Sadar upazila early today.

Deceased Saiful Islam alias Baba Arif, 37, was a drug dealer and an accused in 12 cases, Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Munshiganj Police Station, told our Munshiganj correspondent.

Arif was arrested on Wednesday night with 110 pieces of yaba tablets from nearby Durgabari area, the police official said.

When police officials were going to raid Katakhali area for arms recovery along with Arif, a “gunfight” ensued as miscreants started firing at them around 2:30am forcing the law enforcers to retaliate, the OC said.

Arif came in the line of fire and died on the spot, he added.

The body has been sent at Munshiganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Two police officials were injured during the incident. They are also being treated at the hospital.

Police also recovered a pistol, two bullets and two sharp weapons from the spot.
