DC's move foils pond digging in cropland

District administration in a drive foiled digging of ponds in cropland in Baladkhal area of Sadar upazila yesterday.

Iman Ali of Diyarpara village said some local influential people started digging the ponds in the Godai riverbed and adjacent croplands that may cause different problems including fresh flood.

Sensing danger, people living in the nearby areas submitted a complaint to the Natore DC yesterday noon, Iman said.

Upon receiving the complaint, Natore Deputy Commissioner Shaheena Khatun asked the UNO to take prompt action against those involved in digging the ponds, he said.

Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Jesmin Akter Banu and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Shamim Bhuiyan foiled digging of four ponds that could flood a vast tract of arable lands.
