AL leader found slit-throat

A missing former local Awami League (AL) leader was found dead with his throat slit in Bhuapur upazila of the district yesterday.

The deceased was former Bhuapur AL organising secretary Rokibul Islam Farid, 50, son of Abdul Mazid Master of Bharoi village in the upazila.

Farid, also the manager of a pulse store on Tangail-Bhuiyanpur road in Kagmaripara area, went missing on the way to home from his workplace on Monday night, police said, quoting family members.

Informed by locals, police recovered the body from a pond near his house in the morning and sent it to Tangail Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The reason behind the murder could not be known immediately, AKM Kawsar Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Bhuapur Police Station, said, adding that they are investigating the incident.
