Two policemen were injured as a gang of drug peddlers attacked them during an anti-drug raid in Phulbari upazila on Tuesday night.
Four villagers also sustained injuries when they went to save the policemen during the attack.
The law enforcers arrested four alleged drug peddlers.
The injured policemen are constables Sahazul Islam, 35, also a pickup van driver, and Farhad Hossain, 33, of Phulbari Police Station.
They were admitted to Phulbari Upazila Health Complex.
Injured villagers Prodip Kumar Sarkar, 45, Anzan Kumar Sarkar, 24, Nantu Kumar Sarkar, 48, and Monibala Chakrabarty, 55, hail from Pathakpara in the upazila.
Sheikh Nasim Habib, officer-in-charge of Phulbari Police Station, said on information, a police team, led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Shah Alam, went to arrest the drug peddlers at Pathakpara village around10:00pm.
As soon as they reached the area, the drug peddlers swooped on the police team with wooden sticks. Hearing screams, villagers came forward to help the policemen and came under the attack.
Later additional police personnel rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said the OC.
Police arrested Biplop Das, 32, Bilash Das, 30, Ripon Das, 25, and Sanatan Chandra Roy, 30, from the spot for attacking the law enforcers.
A case was filed in connection with the incident, said the police official.
