10 injured in clash over UP election

Ten people were injured yesterday in a clash between supporters of Awami League (AL) nominated candidate and the rebel candidate in the union parishad by-election in Sharsha upazila of Jessore.

Benapole municipality Jubo League Convenor Sukumar Debnath said the AL nominee is Anwara Khatun and the rebel candidate is Kamal Hossain.

On Wednesday night, Anwara's supporters were attacked with bombs and local weapons by the men of rebel candidate. They exploded about 10 bombs.

The attackers also vandalised eight motorcycles.

The injured were admitted to Sharsha Upazila Health Complex. Four seriously injured people were shifted to Jessore General Hospital.

Police have been deployed in the area to avert further clash, said M Mashiur Rahman, Sharsha Police Station OC.
