Univ girl harassed on bus: 3 Turag Paribahan staff remanded

A Dhaka court today placed three staffers of a Turag Paribahan bus on three-day remand in a case filed for sexually harassing a university student in the running bus in Dhaka on Sunday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Golam Nabi passed the order after the accused were produced before the court with seven-day remand prayer for each, said Tapash Mandal Ojha, sub-inspector of Gulshan Police Station.

Yesterday, police arrested the trio -- driver Roman, 27, conductor Monir, 27, and helper Nayan, 29 -- on the allegation of sexually harassing the Uttara University student in the running bus on her way to campus at Uttara on Saturday.

In primary interrogation, the trio admitted that they sexually harassed the student, police said.

The arrest came amid protests by her fellow students that sparked after the news spread on the campus. They also issued an ultimatum to the authorities concerned to track down the culprits by yesterday noon.

On Sunday, the victim's husband filed a case with Gulshan Police Station.

The girl boarded the bus on Badda Link Road to go to the university on Saturday afternoon, according to the case statement.

When all the other passengers got off the bus at Natun Bazar stoppage, the helper, conductor and driver started to sexually assault the girl, read the case statement. At one stage, she managed to fend them off and jump off the bus.
