Shakhawat seeks more security at 53 centres

BNP-nominated mayoral aspirant Shakhawat Hossain of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) polls yesterday demanded additional security measures at 53 polling stations deeming those vulnerable to electoral irregularities and violence.

He submitted an application attaching a list of the 53, said sources at the Returning Officer's (RO) office.

Shakhwat for the last couple of days has been accusing ruling Awami League mayoral candidate Selina Hayat Ivy of violating the electoral code of conduct. He, however, has not submitted any formal complaint to the RO regarding this.

Two councillor aspirants of ward 6 and another of ward 13 in separate applications have also demanded additional security in their electoral areas.

The RO forwarded the applications to police and requested taking steps accordingly, said the sources.
