Humiliation of Narsingdi Rail Staff

Protesters halt rail link

Narsingdi Railway Station's staff yesterday halted rail communications on Dhaka-Chittagong route for two hours protesting the humiliation of the assistant master by an executive magistrate.

Dhaka-bound Kalni Express was scheduled to cross the station at 12:35pm and Executive Magistrate Zakia Sultana just 10 minutes before its arrival directed Assistant Master Shafiqul Islam to stop it for conducting an anti-drug drive.

But Shafiqul told her to contact Kamalapur Railway authorities as they control train movement, and did not stop the train, said Narsingdi Station Master (Control) ATM Musa. Therefore, Ansar members, who were companying Zakia, slapped Shafiqul and detained him at deputy commissioner for an hour.

The train movement resumed at 3:30pm after Senior Assistant Commissioner Masud Kamal went to the station and felt sorry for the incident.
