ROHINGYA REPATRIATION

Myanmar agrees to engage UNHCR

Says Shahriar Alam

Myanmar has agreed to engage the UNHCR, the UN refugee agency, in the repatriation process of forcibly displaced Rohingya population, said State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam yesterday.

“I will say it's a positive initiative or step that Myanmar got engaged with the UNHCR. The UN has confirmed it to us. We are hopeful to resolve the crisis with the positive steps of Myanmar,” he said.

The state minister was responding to queries after attending a seminar on the upcoming 45th Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), to be held in Dhaka in May.

The Bangladesh International Institute of Strategic Studies organised the seminar at Bangabandhu International Convention Center.
