Discussion on TB control held

National Tuberculosis Control Programme (NTP) with the support of “Challenge TB Project” Bangladesh, and USAID have recently organised a discussion on “Zero TB Cities Initiative and the Role of Community Leaders in TB Control Programme” at Nagar Bhaban in the capital.

Khan Mohammed Bilal, chief executive officer of Dhaka South City Corporation, was chief guest at the discussion, also attended by representatives from USAID and World Health Organization, and 20 ward councillors.

Dr Md Shamiul Islam, director MBDC & Line director TB-Lep & ASP, Directorate General of Health Services, chaired the programme held on March 21, marking World TB Day, observed on March 24.

The discussion dwelled on engaging women counselors as promoters of Zero TB Cities Initiative of the family welfare ministry, holistic approach to reduce morbidity related to TB, collaborative efforts, including political support, and creating awareness about TB transmission.
