BGB still concerned over border killings

DG-level talks end today

During the ongoing DG-level talks between Border Guard Bangladesh and Indian Border Security Force, BGB has once again expressed grave concern over the killings of Bangladeshi nationals along the border, said a joint statement yesterday.

BGB Director General (DG) Maj Gen Md Shafeenul Islam is leading a 15-member Bangladeshi team while BSF DG KK Sharma a 10-member Indian delegation.

Both the BGB and BSF chiefs at a joint press briefing at the BGB Pilkhana headquarters yesterday said no killing of Bangladeshi took place since January 1 this year.

However, Ain o Salish Kendra statistics said three Bangladeshis were tortured to death by BSF since January 1 till March this year. The statistics of the rights organisation also shows that 24 people were killed by BSF on the border last year.

The five-day talks will end today. The next DG level conference will be held in September in New Delhi.
