Rajshahi AL leader 'picked up'

A ward-level Awami League leader of Rajshahi was allegedly picked up by four people from his shop in Seroil Colony area of the city yesterday.

Kamrul Islam, 48, is a wielding workshop owner and general secretary of ward-19 unit of the ruling party, Shahadat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Boalia Police Station, quoted his family members as saying.

Police detained Mohammad Jasim, an employee of the workshop, for interrogation.

Jasim, who was present at the workshop during the incident, said four men in an olive microbus arrived at Kamrul's workshop at 2:30pm.

Two of them got down from the vehicle and took away Kamrul after having a brief talk with him.

Since then, Kamrul has been traceless while his mobile phone switched off, said his son Polash.

Kamrul is not an accused in any criminal cases, OC Shahadat told The Daily Star.
