Aranyak Natya Dal, one of the leading theatre troupes of the country, has been observing International Workers' Day (also referred to as May Day, May 1) every year since 1982, with the philosophy 'theatre is not just entertainment; a sharp weapon in the class struggle'. This year will be no different, with the troupe set to hold two-day programmes to mark the occasion.
On May 1, the troupe will gather at the Central Shaheed Minar at 10am, where their programmes will include discussion, music and recitation of poetry, launching of a souvenir publication titled “May Dibosher Kagoj”. Staging of street play “Aranya Mangal”, written by Abdullahel Mahmud and directed by Shamima Shawkat Lovely, will also take place at the venue.
The next day, Aranyak will stage their much-acclaimed play “Rarang” at the Experimental Theatre Hall of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy at 7pm. Thespian Mamunur Rashid has written and directed the play.
