Music aficionados in the port city of Chittagong were entranced by the gentle renditions of Rabindra Sangeet at Chittagong District Shilpakala Academy held recently.
Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha(RSSS), Chittagong organised the musical evening titled “Anandodhara Bohichhe Bhubane”.
Alongside three chorus performances, there were solo performances by a total of 17 artistes. All the songs were drawn from prem (romance) and puja (worship) songs of Tagore.
Ustad Mihir Kumar Nandi inaugurated the music evening.
“Rabindranath is dazzling like the sun in our culture; his songs will remain forever in the hearts of Bangalees."
He emphasised the need to learn Tagore songs from dedicated teachers.
Professor Anwara Alam, president of the organisation, spoke among others at the inaugural session.
After the inaugural session, the chorus performance began with "Anondoloke Mongol Aloke", followed by "Amar Matha Noto Kore Dao" and "Pran Bhoriye".
The audience gave a big round of applause to the solo and chorus performers.
