Popular Bangla film actress Supriya Devi passed away in Kolkata on January 26, following a heart attack at the age of 85. She is remembered for her brilliant performances in “Meghe Dhaka Tara” and “Amropali”. In or around 1984, she visited the United States with Uttam Kumar – the uncrowned 'king' of Bangla films. The first stop was Washington. The visit was sponsored by Bangla-speaking people in the United States. At a function in a packed auditorium, Uttam Kumar in his charming style addressed the gathering. Supriya did not speak but was on the stage and responded to the cheers and unending applause from the audience. Both of them are gone now, but they will live forever in the hearts of Bangla movie goers all over the world.
