National Gambhira Festival ends at Charukala

A two-day (December 2-3) National Gambhira Festival concluded at the premises of the Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka. Socio-cultural organisation “Diar” organised the festival that featured the performance of popular folk songs of Chapai Nawabganj.

Two characters -- a grandfather and his grandson -- usually perform the Gambhira songs that focus on social concerns in a satirical manner.  Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the festival as chief guest while Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu attended the concluding day's event as chief guest.

Apart from musical performances by 10 troupes, the festival also offered traditional cuisine of Chapai Nawabganj.
