Popular rock band Shironamhin has released a new song on their YouTube channel, an old but obscure number by the band only the most hardcore of fans have heard before. The song is part of the film “Amra Ekta Cinema Banabo” that has been in the making for the better part of a decade.

Monirul Islam honoured at Chandpur Press Club
Internationally-renowned Bangladeshi artist Monirul Islam was honoured with “Gunijon Shongbordhona” at his hometown Chandpur on Saturday. Chandpur Press Club conferred him the ovation marking the initiation of the 2018 executive committee of the press club. At the event, the organisers also honoured Zainal Abedin Majumder, who was bestowed with CIP award twice for exporting leather goods to international market.

Taposh receives Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Award
Prominent Bangladeshi singer and music director Kaushik Hossain Taposh receives the prestigious “Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Award 2018”. As a first Bangladeshi music director, he bagged the award for “Best Singer and Music Director” (Bangladesh) at a programme held in Mumbai on April 21. Marking the 149th birth anniversary of Dadasaheb Phalke, many other Bollywood stars including Shahid Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Rana Daggubati, Shilpa Shetty, Kriti Sanon and Karan Johar bagged the best awards in different categories for their contributions to Indian films.
Chiroboshonter Chithi
LabAid Foundation organised a programme titled “Chiroboshonter Chithi” this past week at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy's Music and Dance auditorium, featuring poetry reading and recitation by poets. Nirmalendu Goon, Ruby Rahman, Zahidul Haque, Habibullah Siraji, Ashim Saha, Kazi Rosy read their own poems at the programme, while elocutionists Syed Hasan Imam, Ashraful Alam, Jayanta Chattopadhyay and Dalia Ahmed recited poems and Lutfar Hasan and Gazala Mahmud performed songs. The programme was dedicated to Ferdausi Priyobhashini.
Pahela Baishakh celebrations
Bengal Foundation's Pahela Baishakh celebrations ended at the capital's Bengal Boi yesterday, after four-days of music and good vibes. The programmes included a wide range of musical performances, from a group classical sarod recital by Bengal Parampara Sangeetalay students, songs by Sharmin Sathi Islam and Halima Parvin and Bhajan Baul, recitation by Hasan Arif, a concert by Joler Gaan and authentic folk music performance by bauls coming all the way from Faridpur.
Pahela Baishakh celebrations
The Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu organised a Baishakhi fair at its Chancery premises on April 14 to celebrate the Bangla New Year 1425 in a joyous manner. The day's festivities included a Pitha festival, a cultural programme, traditional games. Bangladeshi ambassador to Nepal Mashfee Binte Shams distributed prizes among the winners. The programmes ended with a mini Bangladesh food festival showcasing typical Bangladeshi cuisine.

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy organised a staging of play “Jahanara Jahanara” at its National Theatre Hall auditorium on March 31, by Indian theatre troupe HaJaBaRaLa. The programme also included dramatic reading of plays “Julius Caesar” and “Hey Noishhobdo Hey Bohnishikha” by theatre artistes of Bangladesh and India at the same venue.

TV play director Arun Chowdhury's maiden film “Alta Banu” takes part in the upcoming “International Film Festival of South Asia to be held in Toronto, Canada. Produced by Impress Tele-film, “Alta Banu” will be screened in the competition category of the festival scheduled to be held from May 10 to 21.

Battery Dance Company of New York
On Saturday evening (January 27) Battery Dance Company of New York presented its Dhaka debut, “Dancing for Peace and Tolerance” at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA). The programme is supported by the US Embassy in Dhaka, the US Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and BSA. Five dance performances took place over a 90 -minute session, including the productions “People Get Ready”, “Ultraviolet”, “Observatory”, “Terra and Astra” and “Shakti”. All performances worked under the theme of Gandhi's desire to secure a culture of peace and tolerance. The Company also conducted workshops with local dancers.
